Palma de Mallorca: a Cosmopolitan city to discover<\/span><\/h1>\n

One thing is for sure: there\u2019s no city like Palma.<\/strong> Located right in front of the sea in Mallorca\u2019s south coast. It is the largest city of the Balearic Islands with an altitude of 13 metres above sea level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shops, art galleries, museums, impressive buildings, glamorous hotels, a superb harbours and breath-taking old town make Palma an absolute it-place.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Palma\u2019s history\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Allegedly founded in 124 BC, Palma has a long history starting with the Romans, who were the first settlers, building on early Talayotic remains. The Moors and Byzantines followed the Romans. But it was not only 1229 that Palma was conquered by James I of Aragon,<\/strong> renamed Palma and becoming Mallorca\u2019s capital city. During this period the Crown started to build the now famous and stunning La Seu Cathedral.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1741 the city was separated from the government and about a hundred years later, Palma became the Balearic Island\u2019s capital. The 19th century was very important for Palma\u2019s economical growth.<\/strong> But it wasn\u2019t until the 50\u2019s when Palma became a popular tourist destination, starting to build the reputation it has until nowadays.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sightseeing in Palma<\/span><\/h2>\n

Palma is beautiful everywhere you look.<\/strong> If you\u2019re visiting its centre, you will see remains of different\u00a0 cultures all around. If you\u2019re into architecture, there\u2019s plenty to look at: the beautiful cathedral,<\/strong> of course, the Almudaina Palace<\/strong>, the unique Bellver Castle<\/strong>, the bohemian neighbourhood of La Lonja<\/strong>, modernist and Art Nouveau buildings such as Gran Hotel, Can Casasayas, Can Coll, Can Salas and more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dining in Palma<\/span><\/h2>\n

As the Mediterranean highlight<\/strong> it is, Palma, of course, offers a large amount of spectacular restaurants. Even though there are many Mediterranean and Majorcan restaurants all over the city, there are also plenty of international hot spots to try while visiting this beautiful city. Some of our favourites?<\/strong> Tast Club for a cool tapas dinner in Palma\u2019s old town, Duke for a fresh and hip lunch in the neighbourhood of Santa Catalina, the \u2018Mercat de l\u2019Olivar\u2019<\/strong> for some fresh local produce tasting and \u2018Dins\u2019 by Santi Taura for Majorcan cuisine with a twist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shopping in Palma<\/span><\/h2>\n

Last, but not least, shopping offers the ultimate shopping experience.<\/strong> From luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Tous at the \u2018Paseo del Borne\u2019, to concept stores like Rialto Living and little shops hidden all over Palma\u2019s old town streets, shopping in Palma is a dream come true.
